About
About Solar Ledger
Independent reporting on photovoltaics — written by people who specify, install and model solar systems for a living.
Solar Ledger covers solar photovoltaics the way a trade journal should: cell and module technology, mounting and installation practice, system economics, battery storage, and the grid rules that decide what you are allowed to build and what you get paid for it.
Every article is written for people making decisions — homeowners comparing quotes, installers refining their standard details, and analysts sanity-checking payback assumptions. We prefer numbers, tolerances and worked examples over marketing language.
How we work
- Primary sources first. Datasheets, standards, grid codes and metered performance data before press releases.
- Show the arithmetic. When we quote a payback period or a yield figure, the inputs are in the article so you can change them for your own site.
- Name the uncertainty. Degradation rates, tariff futures and battery cycle life are estimates. We say so.
- Correct openly. Substantive corrections are noted in the article rather than quietly edited out.
What we cover
- Technology — cell architectures, module construction, inverters, degradation.
- Installation — mounting, penetrations, cabling, commissioning, maintenance.
- Economics — payback, financing, self-consumption, export value.
- Storage — battery sizing, chemistry, warranties, backup behaviour.
- Policy & Grid — connection rules, metering, incentives, curtailment.
Editorial independence
Solar Ledger is reader-facing and advertising-supported. Advertisers have no access to articles before publication and no influence over what we cover or conclude. Where an article contains an affiliate link, it is disclosed in the article and does not change our recommendation. See the disclaimer for the limits of the advice we publish.
